Participation in the Zouk Competition is exclusively available to holders of a Festival Full Pass.
A limited number of early entries (next 40 participants) are available at a preferred rate of €30.

Judging Criteria
Competition Rounds
Novice Level
Prelims – The first round begins at 16:00 on Saturday, welcoming emerging dancers to showcase their connection, musicality, and flow.
Intermediate Level
- Prelims – The round commences at 18:00 on Saturday, featuring more experienced dancers competing at a higher level of expression and technique.
Finals
- Final rounds for Novice and Intermediate divisions will be held separately.
Final timings will be announced during the event based on the competition flow and schedule
Judging Criteria
- Connection
Quality of lead & follow, responsiveness, comfort, and harmony between partners. - Musicality
Ability to interpret and express the music through timing, rhythm, and dynamics.
- Technique
Body control, balance, posture, footwork, and execution of movements. - Creativity & Expression
Originality, styling, and personal expression while staying true to Zouk fundamentals.
- Floorcraft (Social Awareness)
Navigation and respect for other couples on the dance floor—especially important in social dance competitions.

The BZDC Zouk Social Dance Competition is evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, each bringing extensive experience and deep expertise in Brazilian Zouk and social dancing. These respected professionals ensure a fair, authentic, and high-level evaluation aligned with BZDC standards.
With diverse backgrounds in teaching, performance, and community development, our judges have a strong understanding of the core elements of Zouk—connection, musicality, technique, and improvisation. Their role is not only to evaluate but also to honor the essence of social dance and the individuality of each dancer.
